Drogowcy dostaną 150 tys. zł na wykonanie koncepcji połączenia rozrzuconych po mieście tras rowerowych. Rowerzyści krytykują, że ciągle nie ma w Olsztynie jednolitej sieci ścieżek rowerowych, którymi dałoby się dojechać np. z Jarot czy Nagórek nad Jezioro Krzywe czy na Zatorze. Ich głosy popiera Barbara Olszewska, dyrektor wydziału ochrony środowiska w Urzędzie Miasta. - Ścieżki muszą prowadzić do konkretnego celu, a nie tylko po to, by sobie były. Wydział kierowany przez dyrektor Olszewską zarządza gminnym funduszem ochrony środowiska, który zasilany jest m.in. z pieniędzy pochodzących z wycinki drzew pod inwestycje drogowe. Pozyskane środki przeznaczane są na ekologiczne projekty. Dyrektor Olszewska uznała, że te pieniądze można wykorzystać na połączenie już istniejących fragmentów ścieżek. I podrzuciła drogowcom propozycję wystąpienia z wnioskiem o przyznanie stosownej dotacji. Miejski Zarząd Dróg Mostów i Zieleni tak zrobił i dostanie 150 tys. zł na opracowanie koncepcji stworzenia sieci ścieżek rowerowych w mieście. Zbigniew Gustek, wicedyrektor Miejskiego Zarządu Dróg Mostów i Zieleni twierdzi, że priorytetem będzie połączenie olsztyńskich sypialni z terenami rekreacyjnymi: - Nie bez znaczenia są również turyści rowerowi, bo to potencjalni klienci naszych przedsiębiorców - argumentuje. - Główne trasy powinny przecinać miasto z północy na południe i ze wschodu na zachód, tak by goście zwiedzili Stare Miasto i dojechali np. do hoteli. Mirosław Arczak, znany aktywista rowerowy, ostrzega przed zbyt pochopnym opracowaniem koncepcji: - Boje się, by cała praca nie sprowadziła się do namalowania farbą na krzywym chodniku znaku informującego, że tu jest ścieżka rowerowa - komentuje. - Dlatego przed przystąpieniem do opracowania koncepcji najpierw należy określić, czego dokładnie chcemy.
